The Macon YLD is in the middle of another exciting year of fellowship and service in the community. In October, we held our annual YLD fundraiser at the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences to raise money for Loaves and Fishes, a local non-profit whose mission is to serve and improve the quality of life of the poor and homeless in the area. We were very excited to help raise money for such a worthy cause.
We continue to support our local establishments with our monthly happy hours where our members are able to connect with colleagues in casual and fun settings across town. Our recent happy hours have taken places in the revitalized downtown area. In January, many of our members assisted the Georgia YLD’s sponsorship of the Macon Regional Georgia Mock Trial Competition. The event was a resounding success as our members helped to judge and encourage some very talented high-school litigators.
In February, we partnered with Veritext to host a CLE called “iAttorney- Current applications and technologies that can assist attorneys in their practice of law and case workloads.” We also had the opportunity in February to partner with Mercer Law School in holding its annual mock interview night, where our members interviewed law students in preparation for their summer clerkships.
Finally, in April we were excited to partner with state YLD secretary candidates Ron Daniels and Bert Hummel, both graduates of Mercer Law in Macon, for two campaign stop happy hours. Our members enjoyed catching up with Ron and Bert and learning about their platforms. We are very excited to continue our growth this year under the leadership of our new President Terri Benton, Vice-President Eva Hutcherson, and Treasurer Wes Childs (secretary TBD). The entire organization extends its sincerest appreciation to current President Beth Howard for her tireless work in making this year as well as past years so successful.
